Dispatches from Blogistan?

First of all, what kind of name is that for a book or a blog? Witty but slightly odd.

I do, however, think that the top 10 tips that were given in this reading should be read by all bloggers. There are far too many times when I stumble upon a blog that has content that I think would be interesting to read but layout, accessibility and readability makes it difficult to take in the material.

I think the best tip in the reading is to be consistent. There is nothing more frustrating than the blogs that don’t have a theme or a reason for existing. I’ve read several blogs where I’ll enjoy reading for a few days but then all of a sudden the tone of the blog and the purpose changes. Also, it’s difficult to enjoy a blog when one post is about a single subject and the next is a complete tirade about another. Keep one theme and run with it, if others come up along the way, feel free to add those into a different catagory.

The other tip that I totally agreed with was “test, test, test”. I think that the “preview this post” option, at least on WordPress, is the best function possible. There’s nothing worse than visiting a blog and then watching a photo overlay text as you’re scrolling down or text that wraps funny around a graphic. Previewing and testing a post in a blog is something that should be mandatory before posting so everything doesn’t look so discombobulated on certain sites and in posts. Blogs are meant to be read, not fought with.
